Can I claim compensation for being attacked by my neighbours cat?

Can I claim compensation for personal injuries after being attacked by my neighbours cat through no fault of my own?
I was attacked in my front garden and suffered bites and scratches which led to a nasty infection, how much could I be entitled to?
Do I need to press charges against the owner or have the cat put down to claim compensation?

Thank you for your enquiry.

I am pleased to advise that, in theory, based on the accident circumstances, you would be entitled to make a claim against the cats owner.

In relation to your question regarding how much compensation you will receive, this is entirely dependent upon medical evidence. Medical evidence is obtained to both prove causation (the injuries where sustained as a direct result of the incident that has occurred) and provide a basis upon which we as your legal representative can accurately place a valuation upon your claim.

If the injury has left scarring, you could receive around £4,000 upwards.

Please contact us on 0800 073 8804 to discuss this claim further and we can provide some detailed advice.
