My name's Barry. I was in an accident last week and today I received a call from an insurance company offering me compensation. I thought the offer didn't sound very good, so can you tell me what the average compensation payout for whiplash is please?

The average payout for whiplash all depends on the severity of the injury. For minor injuries that heal within 3 months, you could receive anywhere between £1,000 and £2,300.

For injuries that take longer than 3 months to heal but no longer than a year, the average whiplash claim amount could be between £2,300 and around £4,000.

Whiplash injuries that take longer than a year to heal but which you recover from before 2 years could see you get anything between £4,080 and £7,410.

For more serious injuries that involve muscle tears, serious impairments and a possible need for surgery, you could get anywhere between £7,410 and £36,120.

The most severe of cases could see you get as much as over £100,000, though usually, that'll involve multiple injuries.
