Rear ended as made way for an ambulance, suffered severe whiplash, can I claim compensation?

I was involved in a accident yesterday and have got some pain in my neck and lower back, it was completely not my fault and the car behind me hit me.

It was a single lane and I pulled on to the side of the road to the left, to give way to an ambulance that was rushing up the street with sirens flashing and the idiot in the car behind me failed to notice it and hit from behind, I called the police and they came to the scene and recorded both our events, they were trying to bluff something to the police officer that they didn't notice the ambulance, it is obvious when someone hits from the back, they haven't seen me and if they didn't notice the sound and flashing lights of an ambulance they cannot have been paying attention to the traffic.

I would like to know if i can make any claim from the third party, I am still waiting to hear from the insurance company that the third party has accepted liability, if they don't I think the officers from the incident would be qualified to say who's to blame.

I have got pain in my neck, shoulder and lower back and started getting headaches so I am going to have to go to A&E in hospital to get this checked by a doctor. Can i know what claim would i be able to pursue and what are chances of succeeding?
