Foot trapped and ankle twisted/sprained in workplace accident, unable to work, can I claim?

Hello, I would like to make a claim for a work related injury.

I have had an accident that was not my fault in the workplace and I have been hurt, I'm a support worker at a care home for people with learning disabilities and challenging behaviour and I can not do my job as affectively as I used too because of a severely sprained ankle.

There was a big hole in the flooring at the side of the toilet and the wood had rotted away and become weak and fragile, I reached up to get a toilet roll and when I moved my weight my foot went straight through the rotten wood floor and got stuck, my ankle was immediately trapped and hurt.

Would it be advisable to go to my doctors? As I am out of work with a limp and struggling to walk, losing wages because I am not getting sick pay.

Iv done an accident form and filled in a report in the book so the incident officially took place but I don't know whether to make a claim, the hole and rotting wood next to the toilet has been reported to the home manages more than once so with was a known hazard to management, but I don't want to get laid off, would I still be able to keep my job if I tried to claim?

I'm struggling to walk with my usual weight on ankle and foot still, and it's grazed with red marks and cuts/scratches all over my leg which will probably get infected and not sure if any thing else will come of it as it only happened yesterday.

Do I have a right to claim compensation from my employer?
