Can I claim compensation for a trip and fall accident in Italy?

Me and my wife went on holiday to Rome in Italy and I had an accident that was not my fault.

I tripped on a broken paving slab on the hotel grounds and badly hurt my knee, I spent the rest of my holiday in pain and when I got home I went to hospital and had xx rays and the doctor told me I have fractured my knee cap.

Can I claim compensation from the hotel?
How much compensation can I claim for a fractured knee on holiday?
